In this blog, we discuss how to maintain a healthy lifestyle without changing too much in your daily life. Our tips are both simple and beneficial and in the long wrong run will you help both in and outside of your personal training sessions.
Tips to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
Eat a Healthy Diet
A balanced diet is key to a healthy lifestyle. As I’m sure you’ve heard a hundred times, your diet should consist of plenty of fruits and vegetables paired with good fats and protein. However, that doesn’t have to be all you eat.
If you’re craving sugar or chocolate, you don’t have to feel bad about it. Just reduce your portion or even out your daily calorie intake so you can include dessert. You could also go for the reduced fat or fat free desserts, because let’s face it, no one wants to eat healthy all of the time.
Drink Plenty of Water
Water is a very important part of sustaining your health. You just need to drink eight 8 ounce glass a day — easy enough right? If water isn’t a huge part of your diet, we get it. However, the benefits are endless including weight loss, nourishing your skin, helping your brain work faster, and of course, keeping you hydrated.
If you have a hard time drinking water then you can always use water flavor enhancers made by Mio, Dasani, or Crystal Light (to name a few). Or you can add some lemon juice or other fruits to your water for a more natural, yet enhancing, flavor.
Get Restful Sleep
You should get between seven to nine hours of sleep every night to reach the optimal amount that your body needs to fully function. If you have trouble sleeping then exercise is definitely a great way to wear your body out before bed.
Another way to sleep better at night is to make sure you don’t use your phone right before bed. The blue glow from your electronics could actually make it harder for you to fall asleep at night. If that doesn’t do it for you, you can also reduce your caffeine intake during the day, try to adjust your body’s clock by going to bed earlier, or reduce your stress levels that could be keeping you up at night.
The best way to lower your stress levels is through meditation or yoga practices. Even doing a few breathing exercises every day could reduce stress and put your mind at ease. If these practices are difficult for you, the best way to get started is by playing some meditation music for about 10 to 20 minutes to let your mind unwind.
Another great way to reduce stress is by disconnecting for a little. Take some time away from your electronics and just unwind for a while. Whether it’s in the bathtub or just on the couch, sometimes taking some time for your mental health can make a world of difference.
Use At-Home Workout Equipment
Outside of seeing a personal trainer, it’s important to remain active and workout on a regular basis. Even if it’s just 30 minutes on the treadmill or a quick rowing session on a water rower, you could significantly impact your life in a positive way.
